WWE Raw star who is a former two times WWE Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes who is also a former three times AEW TNT champion recently remembered playing Shane McMahon’s theme while working in NJPW right before the launch of AEW.
Cody Rhodes made his return to WWE recently at WrestleMania 38. He was one of the founding members of the All Elite Wrestling which is currently the biggest Rival professional wrestling promotion to the Mighty WWE. He spent over 3 years in the AEW and during this time in the promotion he had mostly been treated as a mid carder.
Cody Rhodes Remembers Playing Shane McMahon’s Theme In NJPW
He won the AEW TNT Championship three times in total. It never looked like he could ever leave AEW and that was also for WWE. But the unthinkable actually happened and he made his return to WWE through a great storyline. Seth Rollins was desperate for a WrestleMania spot and he was ready to do anything for it.
After failing to get any spot at WrestleMania 38, Vince McMahon confirmed him a match for the event but his opponent would be a secret till the event and it would be an opponent of McMahon’s choice. That mystery opponent turned out to be Cody. The duo presented and excellent match and it is the best match of the event according to a lot of fans and critics.
Cody won at WrestleMania 38 and the duo was given a rematch at the WrestleMania Backlash pay per view event. Once again the duo presented the best match of the mentioned event as well.
Indeed, it was a better match than their previous encounter. At Hell in a Cell, Cody once again defeated Seth inside Hell in a Cell but Cody picked up an injury before the event and it had been reported that he was out of action for nine months. Recently, he made his return to win the Royal Rumble match and he would be challenging Roman Reigns for the Universal title at WrestleMania 39.
Cody Rhodes who is also a former three times AEW TNT champion recently spoke to the Impaulsive podcast where he remembered playing Shane McMahon’s theme while working in NJPW right before the launch of AEW. He said;
“It’s not really a Shane McMahon story, but the excursion I went on. When I plugged back in, not only just WWE, but when we were starting the other promotion [AEW], the money was large. I had been away from the large money for awhile.
“I was in Tokyo Dome hotel getting ready to do this big show, Wrestle Kingdom for New Japan. I knew in a few weeks, it was going to go down. We were going to announce it to the world and we were going to be on an actual real network.
“This is happening. Shane’s music is ‘Here Comes The Money.’ Every time I get on the elevator with other guys in the group with me, I would play that music. There were all these other wrestlers who would [turns his head]. We were the enemy. We were leaving, they didn’t know why. I just played it to the point where, now I can’t see Shane and not be like, ‘I ruined your song by playing it everywhere.”
