WWE Raw star and a former two times WWE Intercontinental Champion Cody Rhodes who is also the winner of the men’s Royal Rumble match of 2023 recently talked about former NWA world heavyweight champion Matt Cardona and claimed that he would be huge If ever returns to WWE.
Matt Cardona was pretty famous in WWE under the ring name of Zack Ryder. He was a product of WWE development territory and he went through a lot of things in the promotion. At first he was treated as a Tag Team wrestler along with Curt Hawkins. Later he teamed up with WWE legend Edge when he became a member of La Familia.
Cody Rhodes Thinks Matt Cardona Would Be Huge In WWE
After the faction disbanded, WWE did not have any big plans for him and somehow he became a lower mid card. But he was becoming even sleep popular on social media and every now and then WWE gave him a mid card push but none of them existed for long.
Ultimately he was released from WWE in 2020. After his WWE release, he went to work on the Independence circuit where he became a huge face. He worked on all over the indies and on some other promotions like Impact Wrestling and AEW as well. With his increasing popularity, WWE fans really wanted him back in WWE.
Cody Rhodes who is also the winner of the men’s Royal Rumble match of 2023 recently spoke to the Good Karma Wrestling podcast where he talked about former NWA world heavyweight champion Matt Cardona and claimed that he would be huge If ever returns to WWE. He said;
“I’m really proud of him. He’s out there, he’s doing the ‘Indie God’ thing with the Indiana Jones hats. Everything Matt’s doing, Matt has been the king of the indies now, this is going on year two. You only usually get one run in that role, you know? He’s going on year two.
“What Matt does next is gonna be huge. If he goes to AEW, that’d be cool but if he comes back to WWE, that’s what I want, it would be off the charts. I think he’s a huge get, a huge free agent, he’s the best he’s ever been but he’s really pissed me off. I have no good karma with Matt Cardona at the moment.
“I have this story about Matt (Cardona) which I’m gonna tell eventually about watching his first meeting with a certain member of management somewhere, how he tanked this meeting right in front of me and then one big line he hit in the meeting that I’ll never forget, this is one of my real life friends.
“He said, ‘I just wanna make it clear, I’m never putting on a Nightmare Family jacket or associating myself with him on-screen.’ I got you the meeting! Why!? Why did you just — under the bus right away so and then he said some other things that I’ll save for the story in a more longform setting but, I love Matt Cardona, I’m greatly irritated with him at the moment.”
