Ever since Cody Rhodes made his return to WWE last year at WrestleMania 38, he had been presented as the top babyface of the promotion. He had a series of Huge victories upon his return. He started a feud with Seth Rollins instantly upon his return and had a series of three huge victories over the Visionary.
Unfortunately, he pick up a message injury just before Hell in a Cell which sidelined him from action for eight long months. He returned directly to participate in the men’s Royal Rumble match and he won it. He got the right to challenge Roman Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Universal Heavyweight Championship at the main event of WrestleMania 39.

He was a big favourite to dethrone Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39 but unfortunately he failed to win the match and he faced his first defeat upon his return at the hands of Roman Reigns at the mentioned event. Recently he was interviewed by the New York Post where you talked about his defeat at WrestleMania 39 at how he felt about it. Here is what he had to say;
“It’s the biggest challenge that’s ever been presented to me,” Rhodes said. “Bigger than doing All In, bigger than doing AEW, the biggest challenge ever is can this get hotter?” explained the winner of the men’s Royal Rumble match of 2023.

“We left a sold-out SoFi Stadium with 80-something-thousand super pissed-off people. There are Roman fans too, don’t get me wrong. But that was, to this day, when I think about the loss, when I think about how things went down, that to me is still jarring. If it was a moment missed, it’s my job to find the moment again.
“Who could possibly step in now and say, ‘I don’t know, he may not be the guy?’ That’s really what’s in front of me. If you’re able to not just get out of this alive, but with a victory. Winning the big ones at the big ones. That puts us in a different conversation. That puts us in the space where you start doing this (motions a title belt around his waist) and every fan in the arena knows what you’re talking about.”
Cody Rhodes is currently involved in a feud with the Brock Lesnar and the feud started just after WrestleMania 39. Due to his involvement in this feud he could not continue his previous feud with Roman Reigns. There are big rumours that he would face Roman Reigns again for the title at WrestleMania 40.
