Curt Hawkins Discusses His Friendship With Zack Ryder
In 2006 they signed with WWE together and here also they kept on working as a tag team. In 2007, they teamed up with one of the biggest stars of WWE of that time Edge and together they formed a faction named La Familia.
While working as members of the La Familia, the duo became extremely popular among the wrestling fans. In 2009, the faction was disbanded and their Tag Team also ended. Both of them started working solo.
Ryder went on to become one of the fan favourite in the upcoming years, where Hawkins still struggled to get recognition from the fans as a solo star. He was a demoted to the development territories of WWE, as he worked on both Florida Championship Wrestling and NXT.

In 2014 he was let go by WWE, but in 2016 he returned to the promotion once again. This time he kept on working as a solo star and in 2017, he played a losing streak storyline where he kept on losing his matches for nearly two years.
In 2019 he teamed up with Ryder once again and at WrestleMania 35, they defeated the Revival to win the WWE Raw Tag Team Championship which ended Hawkins’ losing streak. In 2020 he was released by WWE and he never returned to the promotion once again. He is now working on the Impact Wrestling.
Curt Hawkins who is currently going by the name of Brian Myers recently spoke to Renee Paquette’s The Sessions podcast where he talked about his life long friendship with his former WWE Tag Team partner Zack Ryder and Matt Cardona and also revealed that they met each other for the first time at a wrestling school. He said;
“We’re both at this wrestling school a couple months in, staring at each other like: this guy’s my competition. We’re the exact same. We both had the same mindset. People were saying, you guys look alike, you should be a team! That’s not what we wanted to do.

“We were very stand-offish with each other. You know Matt… he’s pretty rude, naturally (laughs). He’s not exactly a people person. It’s close [to resting bitch face]. He can be very firm with his responses.
“It really was wrestling figures that broke the ice between us to make us these great friends. Back then, 2003, you’re not gonna go to wrestling school and tell these guys you collect wrestling figures. It was like… beyond something you wouldn’t do.
“We eventually get signed and we’re in the WWE locker room with Undertaker and Bob Holly. You think we’re gonna tell them we collect wrestling figures? We’d be beaten to death (laughs). That really was the thing that broke the ice and cemented our friendship for years and years.”
