South African fast bowler Dale Steyn is likely to miss atleast the first two T20s against Australia because of a hamstring strain, an injury he suffered in the third and final test against the Aussies due to which he bowled only 13.1 overs in the game as the Proteas lost to concede the series 2-1.

Fast bowler Kyle Abbott has been added to South Africa‘s Twenty20 squad as cover for the injured Steyn. “A Grade 1 hamstring strain would usually take between 7-10 days to recover, so Dale is unlikely to be available for the first two matches in Port Elizabeth and Durban,” South Africa’s manager Mohammed Moosajee confirmed. The team management is however hopeful that the fast bowler will be available for the third and final T20 in Centurion and for the 2014 ICC World Twenty20 later this month.

There are further worries for the South African team management as fast bowlers Wayne Parnell and Beuran Hendricks also face late fitness tests to be fit for the opening T20 encounter on March 9 at Port Elizabeth.

South Africa’s T20 WC campaign kicks off on March 22.
