Roman Reigns announcing his leukemia diagnosis and relinquishing the Universal title in October 2018 was one of the most shocking WWE incidents of last year.

Being the franchise player of WWE and a true inspiration to millions of fans all around the world, it appeared to be devastating news. The company suffered a lot of decline in TV ratings during his absence. At one point, there were speculations on whether his career was over for good.

Thankfully, he was back in quick time to in-ring competition showing tremendous resiliency. A supposed year-long absence came to an end within just four months. Prayers and thoughts for the Big Dog were answered as Roman Reigns is now performing in the WWE with full health. He is also carrying the SmackDown brand on his shoulder following its premiere on FOX.
During a recent interview with WrestlingInc.com, the uncle of the Big Dog Roman Reigns, Rikishi talked about a number of things. He touched upon the fact whether the family was aware of Roman’s Leukemia before the public announcement was made.
The member of the Anoa’i Family revealed they all knew about the problem, beforehand. But they respected the privacy and waited for the big announcement on Raw for the truth to come out.
Rikishi continued saying how much proud he feels seeing the huge effect that Roman Reigns had over the fans during this tough time and afterward,
“We all knew about it. But it was his timing and as a family, we supported his thoughts and when it was right for him to come out with it,” said Rikishi. “I can’t tell you how proud I am of him of being able to speak up because it’s a domino effect in helping other kids diagnosed with leukemia.
As we see on a weekly basis, he’s doing the charities and meet-and-greets and bringing awareness to that disease. It’s a beautiful thing as he’s utilizing his platform. It’s bigger than wrestling and that’s one thing we’re so happy he’s able to get out there and bring awareness.”
The father of the Usos also added that it’s a generous thing that Roman Reigns is using WWE’s bigger platform to raise awareness for Leukemia patients. With constant charities, he is working to bring awareness to the disease which is a beautiful thing and it’s bigger than wrestling.
