WWE News: Did Women’s Tag Team Titles Change Hands On Smackdown? 1

We have received a Women’s Tag Team Championship Match on Smackdown, after a long time. The IIconics (Billie Kay and Peyton Royce) faced The Kabuki Warriors (Asuka and Kairi Sane) with Paige standing outside the ring. The former GM slapped Royce to start the match which allowed Sane to take control. Asuka got the tag and hit Billie with a kick after which both the champions decided to walk away. The referee counted them out as the titles did not change hands. But Asuka and Sana did beat them after the match was over hinting their goal is still the same.

The situation around women’s tag team championships has become extremely boring following Wrestlemania 35. WWE introduced it to make the women’s division look stronger. But lack of planning did not take the championship, anywhere and thereby ruining its prestige. The IIconics proved out to be a boring champion since they barely got any title defense.

Thankfully though, the Kabuki Warriors (Asuka and Kairi Sane) arrived on the scene as the new challengers for these championships. They have defeated the tag champs in the bygone live event in Japan. This earned them the championship shot at last night’s Smackdown, as confirmed by WWE.com,

“Paige warned Peyton Royce & Billie Kay that a reckoning was coming for them. It’s here. After defeating The IIconics in a non-title match in Tokyo last month, The Kabuki Warriors earned the right to challenge for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship. Asuka & Kairi Sane will get their opportunity at the titles, tonight.”

We anticipated witnessing new pair of champions on Smackdown for good. But for now, the champions were able to walk out of the show retaining the titles via disqualification. The rivalry is surely not over between these two teams as there has to be a future match with a definite outcome. So we anticipate a rematch between the two is coming soon in a bigger way. Most probably, Asuka and Kairi Sane will get the next title shot at Summerslam 2019 edition.
