The division of the divas in world wrestling entertainment is not the same anymore. There was a time when divas used to feature in some tremendous feuds and storylines and sometimes, in the main events too. Stephanie McMahon and Lita featured in the main event of Raw on August 21, 2000. And Lita also featured in a Monday night Raw main event against Trish Stratus on December 6, 2004. The women’s championship was on the line in both matches. But that was a long ago. You can’t dare to think about a divas match in the main event. Nowadays, divas like Kelly Kelly and the Bella Twins can even snatch the championship gold. The WWE has released most of their good divas like Victoria, Mickie James, of course Serena Deeb, she was one of my personal favorites. Beth Phoenix is also history. The division of the divas has to improve. We have shared an article before about how to improve the division of the divas. We hope it would improve and will regain its lost days. In this series of articles, we will discuss about the best divas of the last decade. In the first part of this series, we will talk about the former two times women’s champion Michelle McCool.
Michelle Leigh McCool started her WWE career with the diva search competition in 2004. Being one of the finalists of final eight, she finished seventh. McCool was hired by WWE later as an official WWE diva. She debuted on November 18, 2004 under a fitness trainer gimmick. She appeared in some kayfabe beauty contests and some inconsistent feuds. In 2005, she was sent to WWE’s developmental territory Deep South Wrestling and had a good time. On March 2006, she was sent to Ohio Valley Wrestling which is another WWE development territory. After two months she returned to the WWE and appeared in a dark match to manage Amish Roadkill and Kassey James.
On June 2006 Michelle McCool returned to Smackdown as a heel where started playing a ‘sexy teacher’ gimmick and we can say this was the beginning of her actual professional wrestling life. She achieved high success and recognition. She appeared in many good matches, feuds and storylines. She formed in a tag team with Leyla which was known as LeyCool, the tag team became very famous. She was crowned as the first ever WWE divas champion on July 10, 2008 at the Great American Bash PPV event. She had a successful reign of one hundred and fifty five days after she was defeated by Maryse. At ‘The Bash’ PPV event of 2009 she won her first women’s championship by defeating Melina. She won the women’s championship for the second time on February 2010 by defeating Mickie James. On September 2010, she the Divas championship for the second time and it was unified with the women’s championship. She did not appear after she lost to Leyla at Extreme Rules 2011 in a Loser Leaves WWE match. She was a superb diva and seriously missed. If you look at the current division of WWE. A diva like her seriously needed.
