Professional wrestling legend and WWE Hall of Famer Road Dogg Jesse James who is also a former six times WWE Tag Team Champion recently revealed that he pitched for Big E to become WWE champion before Kofi Kingston won the WWE championship.
Kofi Kingston had been one of the most consistent stars in WWE and he always maintained a mid card level in the promotion. However in 2019, WWE decided to push him as a main event star. He surprised everyone when he won the WWE World Championship at WrestleMania 35 after he defeated Daniel Bryan. It was such a feel good moment and this time period is famously addressed as the Kofimania.

Road Dogg Reveals He Wanted Big E To Win WWE Title Before Kofi Kingston
The reign last date for nearly 6 months and some big names pushed him throughout this reign such as Dolph Ziggler, Samoa Joe and even Randy Orton. In October he dropped to the title to Brock Lesnar, broad defeated him in only 9 seconds. It completely killed his momentum and he went back to his previous mid Card role.
Last year Big E won the WWE championship after he cashed in his Money in the Bank contract on Bobby Lashley. This main event push for Big E was loading for quite a long time. Majority of fans were waiting to see this reign. But it did not work out as expected. After he dropped the championship he could never regain his momentum back. Kofi’s reign was way more impactful than Big E.

Road Dogg Jesse James who is also a former six times WWE Tag Team Champion recently spoke on his “Oh You Didn’t Know” podcast where he revealed that he pitched for Big E to become WWE champion before Kofi Kingston won the WWE championship. He said;
“I was just texting with Big E. He’s doing well. He was talking about how blessed he is. I hadn’t seen him in a while. I hadn’t heard from him. I was thinking about friends and family today for some reason and saw his number and thought, I’m gonna text Big E right now. He said he’s blessed and doing great.”

“When I wrote Smackdown, I wanted him to be the champion. I wanted him to be the champion of Smackdown. I actually pitched, and I’ve said this before, I actually pitched Big E Mania, and Kofi got the nod because of his time and service for lack of a better word or phrase.
“Kofi had been there, and look, it worked, maybe better than it would have with Big E. Only time will tell if and when he comes back and they put the title on him because he can cut great promos. He’s a great guy. He’s always in great spirits. Just an honor to be able to call him my friend.”
