ToggleLast Saturday at Summerslam, Drew McIntyre challenged Gunther for the WWE Intercontinental Championship and it was ultimately a losing effort for him. He made his return to action at Money in the Bank and challenged Gunther straight for the title. But finally he lost the challenge.
This was not the first time Drew McIntyre challenged Gunther for the title. At WrestleMania 39, The Scottish Warrior and Sheamus both challenged Gunther in a triple threat. Drew lost here too with Gunther pinning him and not Sheamus. He took two months absence before making his return at Money in the Bank.

Drew McIntyre’s WrestleMania 39 Confession: The Unbreakable Bond with Sheamus and the Triple Threat Match
His fans are a little unhappy with Drew’s defeat on both occasions with Gunther pinning him clean both times. But we can expect him to come back stronger soon. McIntyre recently remembered his WrestleMania 39 triple threat while speaking with Under the Ring, he also talked about his relationship with Sheamus;
“Big brother, little brother is the best way to sum it up. I think I’ll have to stop making the age gags [laughs] because I’ve made them like ten million times… We’ve been through everything together, all the ups and downs of life in this industry and any opportunity we get to be together in the ring is awesome because we know we’re gonna bring it against everybody, but especially against each other, and GUNTHER’s of the same mindset.”

While talking about his big triple threat match at WrestleMania 39, “It was awesome to have that triple threat. Sheamus and I always dreamed of the singles match at Mania, and we basically had that, that was the story of the match.”
“How the finish came around was our personal issue, Sheamus and I, came to a head so much we were just fighting each other for about 10 straight minutes with the Brogues and Claymores and me diving over the top and beating the hell out of each other, forgetting there’s the undefeated Austrian champion in the outside and he slid in, took advantage, won the match as he should have because of the stipulation of a triple threat. So it was cool that we had that time to have that singles match.”

Fans were expecting to see Drew returning to challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship, and there were even expectations that he would turn heel to feud with Seth Rollins to provide the dream feud. But unfortunately, it looks like he is not getting any spotlights before extending his WWE contract. This is just an assumption, however.
