WWE fans were welcomed back on this week’s SmackDown, right away with a huge Six-Man tag team match featuring Roman Reigns and Edge. The two are currently involved in a feud over the Universal Championship that will culminate in a contest at Money in the Bank 2021. The tag match served as a big hype for the MITB title bout.
SmackDown originally opened with Vince McMahon kicking things off and thereby asking the fans, “where the hell have you been?” Then the show began with a 6-man tag team match as WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns came out first to a HUGE reaction alongside Jimmy and Jey Uso.

SmackDown Tag Team Champions Rey and Dominik Mysterio then came out to a big reaction. But the loudest ovation was reserved for WWE Hall Of Famer Edge who got a thunderous reaction from the Houston crowd. This is the same city where he made his in-ring return in January, last year. Most of the fans were on their feet during the entrance.
This was Dominik Mysterio’s first match in front of live fans where he got to showcase his skills. The match ended with the heels picking up the win, where Jey Uso pinned Rey Mysterio by holding his tights. Edge was busy dealing with Roman Reigns, outside the ring as he planted the champion with a huge spear in front of the announce table.

A brawl broke out after the match where The Usos attacked Rey Mysterio. Edge saved him by thrashing a steel chair on The Usos’ back but Roman Reigns caught him with a Superman Punch. He tried to punish the current challenger for the Universal Championship, using a steel pipe but he instead got downed with a Spear.

Edge then ended the segment by applying the Crossface with lead pipe across his Roman Reigns’ mouth. The Universal Champion was actually seen tapping out to the submission finisher although the match was over by then and hence he managed to keep his winning streak ongoing.

Edge then posed with the Universal Championship and left the ring. He was got interviewed, backstage by Kayla Braxton where Seth Rollins stepped up and interrupted. Rollins said he hopes the Rated-R Superstar to win the Universal Title, this Sunday, because he’s going to win the Money In The Bank contract and finish what he started 7 years ago, and that’s to finish the Hall of Famer’s career by breaking his neck.
