An intense rivalry has been ongoing between Edge and Seth Rollins over this summer as the duo was intending to head into the Universal Title picture. This produced a rematch between the two during this week’s Super Smackdown from the Madison Square Garden in New York City. The Hall of Famer suffered a loss and was seemingly took out of the storyline perspective, for now.

Edge was very much emotional heading into the match as this marked his first outing at Madison Square Garden in over a decade (11 years, 2 months, and 22 days – 4101 days to be exact). He tweeted the following regarding his scheduled match against Rollins,

“Friday. SmackDown. Edge vs Rollins II. The Garden. I never thought I’d have the opportunity to wrestle in MSG again. Realistically this could be the last time I do. Let’s blow the roof off New York.”

Then Edge proceeded to share some more memories from The Garden where he made his WWE PPV debut all the way back in the 90s. Check out her post on both Twitter and Instagram,

“This pic is from SummerSlam 98. My ppv debut but also my @TheGarden debut. It’s hallowed halls will always be special to me. Tomorrow on #SmackDown marks the 4th different decade I’ve performed there. I’ve changed. But the mission stays the same: tear down the f$&@in house.”

Edge defeated by Seth Rollins in a rematch

The Garden gave a warm welcome to the Rated-R Superstar who managed to pull off a 5-star rated match with the Architect of the WWE. During the match, Edge paid tribute to Triple H (who recently underwent surgery following a cardiac emergency) by hitting Rollins with a Pedigree.

Rollins kicked out of the move and took advantage of a distracted referee by low-blowing Edge during the ending moments of the match. He followed it with multiple superkicks and then connected with the Stomp to get the pin to win.

Per the storyline, The Stomp is extremely harmful to Edge who is suffering from a broken neck, and hence he had to be rushed to a local hospital, immediately after the match. This possibly marked the end of the 11-time world champion’s current WWE run that started back in June. He probably headed to a hiatus and will be back only when the time is right.
