Eric Bischoff On The Rumours Of Hulk Hogan Sabotaging Goldberg

But when he decided to join the biggest Rival of WWE back in the time which was WCW, everybody thought this has to be the end of WWE. Such a big name like Hulk Hogan what’s the enough to carry forward WCW and ahead of WWE throughout the time.

But there has always been a huge rumour that Hogan never like any competition during his time and he always played politics to keep his dominance in whichever promotion he worked in. One of the biggest stars of his time in WCW was Goldberg.

In that time WCW mostly focused on the big names of professional wrestling in that time to beat WWE in the Monday Night Wars whereas WWE focused mostly on developing new stars. Goldberg was one of the fewest names that WCW was able to create themselves back in the time and his dominance in WCW that in the time was simply marvellous.

One of the biggest rumours back in the time was Hulk Hogan sabotaging Goldberg. It has never been confirmed by any reliable media sources but a lot of fans believe in this theory. Goldberg won his first WCW World Heavyweight Championship by defeating Hulk Hogan himself and he defeated almost all the legends of WCW in that time. But it is rumoured that Hulk Hogan was never been a fan of Goldberg and what he was doing in that time.

Eric Bischoff who is the former Boss of WCW recently spoke on his 83 Weeks podcast where he looked back at the rumours that Hulk Hogan sabotaged Goldberg in the WCW. He discussed about this rumour and made his remarks. Here is what he had to say;

“I think Bill should have been handled much more carefully,” Bischoff said. “I think much more care should have gone into it. Not that taking the belt of Bill in 1998, I wouldn’t have changed that. I would have possibly changed how we did it so that we would have something to fall back on storyline wise with Bill later on to build up to, and that didn’t happen. It was kind of like, we’ve gotten as much mileage as we’re going to get out of Bill Goldberg.

“There’s a reason why we took the belt off Bill. It wasn’t because we were making money hand over fist with him and he was continuing to grow the audience which is really important when you work for a television company. Growing your audience, it’s what television networks expect you to do. We were running on a runway with Bill in ‘98.

“Does anybody think if we were making money hand over fist and were continuing to beat WWE in the ratings the way we had for the previous couple of years or year and half, whatever it was, that we would have taken the belt off Bill?

“We were losing steam on Bill and it was time for a change. It was necessary to make a change, but I do think we could have done a much better job particularly in light of his lack of comfort based on his lack of experience. That should have been contemplated much more carefully.”
