Former Boss of World Championship Wrestling Eric Bischoff recently spoke about the famous Tag Team of Owen Hart and Yokozuna. This heel Tag Team was very famous back in the mid 1990s.
Owen Hart and Yokozuna first worked as a team in Wrestlemania XI. Owen was scheduled to face the WWE Tag Team Champions Smoking Gunns for the titles with a mystery partner. Yokozuna was revealed to be the mystery Tag Team partner of Owen. They won their first WWE Tag Team Championship on that night.
Eric Bischoff On Why Owen Hart And Yokozuna Were Great As A Tag Team
They dropped the title to Shawn Michaels and Diesel after five months at the In Your House: Triple Header pay per view event. They regained the titles from Shawn Michaels and Diesel just after that night and dropped the titles again on the same night to the Smoking Gunns.
They kept on working as a tag team after that but they did not get to achieve the achieve the tag team gold after that. In spite of being a heel their tag team was loved by the fans and still remember to this day. The Tag Team was only disbanded after Yokozuna left WWE in 1998.
WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff recently spoke about this legendary tag team on his 83 Weeks Podcast. He said;
“Not on Owen Hart. Primarily because he wasn’t available. He hadn’t reached out to us, he was under contract, especially at this point we weren’t very anxious to get ourselves in any kind of tortious interference situation with regard to approaching WWE contracted talent.
“Not out of any lack of desire to have someone of Owen’s caliber on our roster, but it just wasn’t possible therefore there was no consideration for it or reason to talk about it. With Yoko, I’m sure there were at some level conversations about hey, what if? I wonder if this is possible, I think he might be interested. There were those conversations I’m sure, I would not have been a part of them.
“I don’t remember anybody in a serious way coming to me and saying ‘Hey, we have an opportunity to get this guy, if we can, would you be interested?’ That level of conversation never occurred but I’m sure that there was some dialogue in WCW offices about at least inquiring about the opportunity.”
