Former WWE NXT Women’s Champion Paige is no more a WWE Superstar starting on July 7. She’s now become Saraya, a name that’s given by her mom, Saraya Knight. For the first time in over a decade, she will soon be heading back home to the United Kingdom, not as a WWE Superstar. She was recently announced for her first appearance on a wrestling show since departing the WWE.
World Association of Wrestling, a promotion run by Paige’s parents, has announced that Saraya will be “stepping back into a WAW ring for the first time in over a decade.” This happens during the promotion’s Frightmare IV event on October 15th at the Norfolk Showgrounds in Norwich, England. This is the place that gave WWE’s Anti-Diva her initial fame.

The UK wrestling circuit had also given Paige her birth name as revealed by the Superstar herself during her recent appearance on The Bellas Podcast. Interestingly, her mother also uses the name Sweet Saraya for her in-ring character, too.
“So my mum, you know how crazy my mum is,” Saraya said. “… It was like the ’80s or whatever, and she was tripping on acid at a Slayer concert. And she misheard it as ‘Saraya,’ and that’s how I got my name, and it was just from an acid trip and her not being with it.”

Paige and her mother wrestled as a team in the past
Paige’s mother adopted the same name as her ring name when she started working as a manager for Ricky Knight, her husband, and Saraya’s father. Sweet Saraya Knight would eventually become a wrestler who’s already spent 32 years in the professional wrestling business.
Over the years, she had competed in promotions like SHIMMER, Pro Wrestling: EVE, and GCW. The two Sarayas have also acted as a tag team several times in SHIMMER back in 2011, with the name Knight Dynasty until younger Saraya became Paige in WWE.
Now that her days with the WWE are over, Paige made her first post-WWE appearance during the SummerSlam weekend at Starrcast V to host her own panel. As noted above, she will also appear at the World Association of Wrestling, her family promotion, this October. She revealed to the Bellas that her neck is much better these days which may eventually lead to an in-ring return. But she still has a long way to go in order to get medically cleared by the doctors.
