Daniel Cormier made his first-ever televised in-ring appearance in WWE with last night’s Extreme Rules 2022. Former UFC 2-Division (Light-Heavyweight and Heavyweight) Champion made his grand debut by serving as the Special Guest Referee for the Fight Pit Match between Seth Rollins and Matt Riddle at the latest bygone 2022 premium live event.

Heading into Extreme Rules 2022, he’s promised to call things down right in the middle of the ring. His involvement came as he had previous connections with both men. He and Riddle are both former MMA fighters in UFC, while Cormier is a well-known fan of Rollins’ in-ring work. In fact, Cormier was there in attendance at Wrestlemania 31 when Rollins became the WWE Champion, more than seven years ago.

Also, Cormier was someone who is familiar with the Fight Pit bout and it made perfect sense to insert the UFC Hall of Famer as the special guest referee fat Extreme Rules 2022. In the end, the bout ended without any controversy as Cormier declared Riddle to be the winner via his Triangle Chokehold submission to Rollins.

Negative update on Daniel Cormier following Extreme Rules 2022

There have been rumors about WWE possibly using Cormier at next month’s WWE Crown Jewel 2022 premium live event as well since they like to utilize non-WWE cum mainstream names for their Saudi Arabia shows.

Brock Lesnar also works in Saudi Arabia shows and hence the rumor mill suggested that a Lesnar vs. Cormier match at Crown Jewel was also teased. WWE already did a similar match before at Crown Jewel 2019 – Brock Lesnar vs. Cain Velasquez and many believed that Cormier’s involvement at Extreme Rules 2022 was for a future in-ring opportunity.

In an update by Wrestling Observer, it was stated that Cormier only signed a deal to appear at Extreme Rules 2022. The UFC Hall of Famer was only committed to the bygone PLE and therefore hasn’t signed any form of a long-term contract. As of this writing, there are no plans for his next appearance and no such angle was set up, either capitalizing on which he could make further appearances.

During the Extreme Rules 2022 go-home edition of WWE Raw, The 43-year-old appeared via satellite to end an argument between Rollins and Riddle, making it clear that he only agreed to be the special guest referee to ensure a clean finish to their match inside the Fight Pit.
