WWE started women’s Money in the Bank back in 2017 and Carmella was the first woman to win the inaugural women’s Money in the Bank ladder match. She went on to cash in her contract with Charlotte Flair to win the WWE Smackdown Women’s Championship; the title that is currently known as the Women’s World Championship.
In spite of Carmella being the inaugural women’s Money in the Bank winner, her victory is considered arguably the worst MITB win ever. James Ellsworth used to work as the valet of Carmella during the time and it was he who grabbed the briefcase and hand it over to the Princess of Statin Island.

The decision was so badly criticized that WWE had to rearrange the match next week on Smackdown and she had to win it once again, and this time she won it all by herself. She was an excellent Money in the Bank holder, and she was the only women’s MITB winner who carried the briefcase for a long time before cashing in.
She cashed her contract in on Charlotte Flair to capture the Smackdown Women’s title and carried the title for about four and a half months. She dropped the title to Charlotte Flair at Summerslam 2018 and after dropping the title she never got her main event status back in WWE in spite of the fact she was never pinned for the title.
Carmella Won Women’s Money In The Bank Ladder Match 2017
Her Money in the Bank win would always be considered one of the most controversial wins ever. The man who was also involved in this controversy, James Ellsworth recently talked about the incident and revealed that he was the one to reveal it to her that she was winning. Speaking with Ari Barkan of PWMania.com he said;
“When we did the rehearsal, they had every girl climb the ladder and grab the briefcase, right?” Ellsworth explained. “And then before we left, they’re like ‘Hey, James, climb up the ladder, grab the briefcase real quick in case we have you, like, teasin’, you know, climbing the ladder at the show.'”
“I was like, ‘I’m gonna help you win the match.’ And she goes, ‘James, it’s the first-ever women’s Money in the Bank … they’re not going to have a guy grabbing the briefcase,'” Ellsworth said. “And I said, ‘That’s probably why they’re going to do [it] … they like that controversy.'” Concluded Ellsworth.
The Princess of Statin Island is currently out of action with maternity leave and we believe she would be back in action stronger. But there are not enough hope on if she would ever be promoted on the main event level again. She is a very talented athlete and we believe she would receive the best treatment once she is back.
