Goldberg was not booked for WrestleMania 37 along with the other so-called legendary names of the WWE. For the very first time, names like The Undertaker, Brock Lesnar, John Cena, Triple H, and more were kept off the match card for the Show of Shows which perhaps marked the end of an era. But obviously, that wasn’t the company’s initial plans.

At least, Goldberg was very much on the radar of the WWE creative team for WrestleMania 37. Earlier this year, WWE booked him to return at the Royal Rumble where he challenged Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship and came up short. Many fans thought they’d actually see The Myth to pick up the title to have a run through the Mania season, which was the case in the past.

Goldberg Never Expected Good Relation With WWE Chairman Vince McMahon

Even WWE had the initial plans like that. According to Fightful Select, the internal plan was to have Goldberg involved in a long program with Drew McIntyre that could have culminated in, at WrestleMania 37. But then they obviously went in another direction by February as the creative plans started falling in place for the biggest event.

“Goldberg was briefly discussed for a WrestleMania match earlier this year, and the program with Drew McIntyre was even mentioned for the show. However, he wasn’t figured into the plans creatively by February. He has another match this year on his contract,” the source noted.

The reality was much different though as Goldberg received a clean pinfall loss at the hands of Drew McIntyre and thus put him over in a big way. The Scottish Warrior is only one of those handful names who can claim to have defeated the former WCW franchise player.

Although Goldberg hasn’t worked at WrestleMania 37, he is expected to wrestle, at least a few more matches in the WWE including one more match in 2021. He is under a contract of performing in a couple of matches, each year through 2022 and WWE will get benefitted from it.

Vince McMahon still believes that the former Universal Champion is a money player whose 5-minute match is a bigger attraction for the fans rather than seeing the newcomers. So whenever the company feels like, Goldberg will get the call for his next matchup.
