Goldberg is still an active performer in the WWE even in his 50s. Whenever the company feels like producing a money match, he gets the call-up on short notice to deliver. Vince McMahon still believes him to be a marquee name who can draw a lot of attention alongside money. Additionally, WWE can produce a lot of content around him rather than just performing in a match.
The latest WWE Network documentary named “Goldberg At 54” is another example of that where the former WCW franchise player opened up on a myriad of topics. He seemed to be quite open while discussing his relationship with Vince McMahon which had ups and downs over the course of almost two decades.
WWE Legend Goldberg Upset Over Not Appreciating Pro-Wrestling
Goldberg didn’t instantly jump ship to WWE after the takeover in 2001. He did arrive in 2003 for a short stint that lasted nearly a year. After defeating Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania XX, he left the company and that was on really bad terms.
The Hall of Famer had quite a bad experience while being on the WWE roster. He also held negative vibes for Vince McMahon which took him 12 long years to make a comeback. But since the return to WWE in 2016 as a part-timer, The Boss actually became a kind of father figure to him. He also received better treatment that was unbelievable.
WWE Legend Goldberg Wrestles Only For Money, Claims Eric Bischoff
Goldberg admitted that he never thought of getting back on the same page with Vince but it happened,
“My first run with Vince wasn’t the most amicable relationship by any stretch of the imagination, but I would say that wasn’t Vince alone, that was me versus everybody. I came in the door with my back against it. It’s just been a weird trip.”
“Then coming back, and then getting to be actual friends with Vince, it’s been a wonderful experience and I would have done it just for that alone. It’s just a different feeling. It was like doing something for your Dad, in a very respectful way. I never imagined I’d have that feeling for him, whatsoever.”
Goldberg has a ton of praise for Drew McIntyre
During the conversation, Goldberg also mentioned The Scottish Warrior Drew McIntyre as a younger version of himself,
“The problem I have is the time constraint. I think physically, even though I’m at an accelerated age, I think I’m still there. I’m not called upon to be some shmuck who’s easily run over, you know.
Especially in a situation like this, preparing for Drew, who’s as in shape as anybody is going to be, as a champion should be. You know, it’s like fighting a younger version of myself, in a little way.”
Goldberg challenged Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship during Royal Rumble 2021 PPV but failed to win the Title. This makes McIntyre one of the very few superstars to pin The Myth. Following the match, the part-timer put over the current show-runner of Monday Night RAW and he continued to do so with these strong words on this documentary.
