He started his professional wrestling career at a very young age of 19 and he worked in several promotions to earn success.
Goldust Reflects On His Match With Cody Rhodes From Double Or Nothing 2019
He worked throughout the world of professional wrestling and he worked on almost all the big promotions such as WWE and WCW. His Goldust gimmick was invented by WWE. In spite of being a critical failure, the gimmick lived and it became one of the most famous gimmicks among the professional wrestling fans.
In spite of being vastly talented, he has never been treated as a potential main eventer in any professional wrestling promotion, neither he was ever given any strong booking to give longer matches. But at the AEW Double or Nothing pay per view event of 2019 he fought his half brother Cody Rhodes and he proved what he was capable of.
Goldust aka Dustin Rhodes who is also a former two time WCW United States Heavyweight Champion recently spoke Way of the Blade program to where he talked about his match against Cody Rhodes from AEW Double or Nothing 2019. He explained the match as one of the most important night of his career. He said;
“Two weeks before that [releasing his post-WWE hype video], they had given me a call, Cody [Rhodes], right? And told me and they said, ‘Hey man, would you like to be in this Double or Nothing pay-per-view and wrestle your brother?’ And I said, ‘Absolutely.’ But to be honest with you, I thought my wrestling career was over and I questioned myself.
“I questioned myself big time. ‘Can I still go and give Cody the type of match that he deserves?’ And you know, ‘Is this gonna do anything for me?’ Because they billed it as ‘One Last Ride’ — and it was a little before two weeks, sorry. It was probably like a month before they had offered me that, right?
“And they were very scared that the 90-day, they [WWE] were gonna try and hold me and I wouldn’t be able to get into this pay-per-view but I agreed to this, not knowing what to expect because AEW is a different crowd base, a different fan base so they came out to my home, we shot a video. Just the little vignette because we did two vignettes.”
