Rey Mysterio was scheduled to compete against the Monday Night Messiah Seth Rollins on WWE RAW following Payback. It was supposed to be a grudge match and a way to let him seek redemption against the tortuous acts adopted by Rollins, recently. However, that wish of him remained unfulfilled as he could never compete in that match due to an injury.
As reported by WWE, Rey Mysterio sustained an injury and thus his son Dominik needed to wrestle for him. He came up short in the match that was also a qualifier for the WWE Championship Number-one Contender’s Triple Threat. This is said to be a real injury where Mysterio suffered a torn triceps and thus would be out of action, for a while. The good news is that it wouldn’t be for a long time as it could have been.
How Long Rey Mysterio Would Be Out Of Action In WWE Due To Injury?
During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer informed how long Rey Mysterio will be out of action. His triceps injury isn’t a full tear, as per the report. Hence, it won’t keep him away from the ring for a long time since he doesn’t require surgery in opposition to Hall of Famer Edge who is supposed to be out of action for more than six months starting from June.

“If he had a full tear then he would need surgery and he’d be out eight months. I hear two months or less so, you know it’s a real injury and not a good time, but it’s a whole lot better than six to eight months out, especially right now when he’s a real focal part of the show and he’s in a real key angle.” (transcription by Ringside News)
If this is the case then Rey Mysterio might be able to remain on television throughout his recovery. His son Dominik could give a proxy to him during this short hiatus and he could play the mentor’s role providing him mental support. The decision totally lies at the hands of WWE because they don’t want to lose Dominik Mysterio from TV.
The youngster has just started his career on television and competed in two big-time matches since SummerSlam 2020. He lived up to the hypes of being the legendary Rey Mysterio’s son and thus proved to be a valuable asset in the ring. The 21-year old lad has some big dreams to chase and getting his father is the best that he could ask in the beginning days of his career.
