Professional wrestling legend and two times WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan who is a former six times WWE World champion and also a former six times WCW World Heavyweight champion recently looked back at his main event match from WrestleMania 2 against King Kong Bundy. He also revealed why he was really comfortable in the ring with Bundy.
WrestleMania 2 is the only WrestleMania in the WWE history two held in three different venues. Each venues held 4 matches each. The main event of the night was held at the Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena, the match was for the WWE championship and it was between the champion Hulk Hogan and King Kong Bundy.
Hulk Hogan Looks Back At His Match Against King Kong Bundy From WrestleMania 2
WrestleMania 2 was also the first WrestleMania to held the WWE championship match. And it was also the first WrestleMania where is steel cage match was booked. The very next WrestleMania to get a steel cage match was WrestleMania 37 where Braun Strowman and Shane McMahon met inside the steel cage.
King Kong Bundy was a terrific performer featured in only one WrestleMania main event match. He has never been treated as a consistent main eventer in WWE but whatever performance is he gave were quite amazing. This steel cage match is not much remembered by the fans but it was a great match indeed.
Hulk Hogan who is a former six times WWE World champion and also a former six times WCW World Heavyweight champion recently spoke to Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling podcast where he looked back at his main event match from WrestleMania 2 against King Kong Bundy. He said;
“What I always said about him is, when I saw his face, ‘that’s a good looking man’. King Kong Bundy was a good-looking guy. A lot of people never saw that because of the shaved head and he was so big, but he was a good-looking man when he was younger.
“I didn’t pay much attention to him when we both got old but when he first started wrestling. Austin idol is huge as well. He had that same face, just so huge as Mike McCord that you couldn’t tell he was a good-looking guy, but that’s how Bundy was. He was always nice to me. He was just heavy-handed as hell.
“WrestleMania 2 was a good one man because that was a weird deal to have that thing in three different locations. To wrestle him to have him in that little storyline if everything went awry and screwed up everything, if everything fell off into the ocean in New York and Chicago, we’d have still held our own. We’d have been okay.”
