WrestleMania IX is considered by many fans to be one of the worst WrestleManias of all time. And it was because of one reason only, Hulk Hogan. It was not because of the match he was scheduled for. He faced ‘The Million Doller Man’ Ted DiBiase and IRS for the WWE Tag Team Championship. Hogan’s Tag Team partner on that night was Brutus The Barber Beefcake.
On the main event of that night, the WWE World Heavyweight Champion Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart squared off with Yokozuna for the title. After Yokozuna won the title, Hulk Hogan immediately enter the arena, challenged Yokozuna for the title defeated him, and won the title.
Hulk Hogan Revealed How He Got Black Eye At WrestleMania IX
The curious case was; Hogan was seen with a blacked-out eye. Legends have it that he got it from ‘The Macho Man’ Randy Savage. But WWE debunked the theory in 2013 by saying the legend was false.
Hogan appeared as a guest on the After The Bell podcast to discuss a variety of topics where he shared the story of the reason behind his black eye. He said,
I get home to Clearwater, nobody’s home, so what do I do? ‘Hey guys, come on over.’ You know. Ellis Edwards, and Brutus [Beefcake] and [Randy Savage], so here we go. I used to keep four Sea-Doos behind my house, and there’s a crazy storm coming in, and here we go, taking out on those jet skis. Now I had these Sea-Doos, and all the sudden, I switched from one of my jet skis to this other guy’s jet ski that he had.
I don’t remember what kind it was, but it was a quicker jet ski, and it had trim tabs on it, so you could make the front end come up, or the front end go down. And as we’re going through the Clearwater pass, we’re jumping these crazy waves in this storm.
And Brutus takes off, going straight ahead, Macho [Man] takes off going straight ahead, and Ellis is kinda sticking with me. And so as I jump this wave, I get thrown over the front of the ski. And I got a life jacket on, so as I go into the water, I try to duck down underwater, but that damn life jacket brought me back up. And the jet ski hit me in the face.
Whatever the revelation would be, some fans still believe it was actually caused by Randy Savage and they hide the story for obvious reasons. Unfortunately, neither Randy Savage nor Miss Elizabeth is alive so the real story could be confirmed.
