The main event of the bygone WWE Day 1 pay-per-view witnessed Brock Lesnar winning the WWE Championship. As a result of this win, he’s now become a 9-time World Champion in WWE history. (6x WWE Champion and 3x Universal Champion). Plus, this title win brings him back on the fold of Monday Night Raw, starting from now.
Originally, this match was scheduled to be a Fatal 4 Way match between Big E, Seth Rollins, Kevin Owens, and Bobby Lashley. But, Roman Reigns tested positive for COVID-19 before the PPV, which resulted in his Universal Title defense getting canceled against Brock Lesnar. As a result, Lesnar was then added to this WWE Championship match, thus making it a Fatal 5 Way match.
WWE Royal Rumble 2022 Officially Announced Featuring Movie Star
As seen in the finishing sequence, Brock Lesnar pinned Big E to win the match and then closed the PPV, sharing a staredown with Lashley. The interesting fact following this outcome is that Lesnar is the man who ended the WWE Title reigns of The New Day members – E and Kofi Kingston. Before ending Big E’s title reign, Lesnar also ended Kofi Kingston’s WWE Title reign in October 2019.
Brock Lesnar surprised fans at WWE Day 1
The original outcome of the WWE Day 1 encounter was supposed to be pretty much different. The WWE on FOX Twitter account posted a graphic showing Day 1 results. On that graphic, the result written for the WWE Championship match was Big E defeating Lashley, Rollins, and Owens to retain his belt. But then Brock Lesnar was added to the fray at the last minute who ended up winning the belt.
As for the released graphic, it was made in advance, as making such things are time-consuming, and the graphic department also knows the results in advance so they can present the stuff on time.
It should be noted that Brock Lesnar’s addition to the match was announced very late and hence it seems like the graphic designer only added Lesnar’s photo and but wasn’t able to alter the outcome of the match. The new champion is now likely to begin a feud on Raw over his title against Lashley since the latter name was protected in the Fatal-5-Way. E should also claim his rematch, making it a three-way program.
