Professional wrestling legend and WWE Hall of Famer Jeff Jarrett who is also a former four times WCW World Heavyweight champion recently looked back at Samoa Joe winning the TNA World Heavyweight Championship and talked about the concerns of making this decision.

Samoa Joe joined TNA wrestling back in 2005 and from the very first day of joining the promotion he had been treated as a big star. He continued a long undefeated streak in TNA Wrestling and he defeated some of the biggest names of the promotion during his unbeaten streak.

Eventually his undefeated streak was beaten by the newly signed TNA star Kurt Angle. The duo collided at the TNA Genesis pay per view event of 2006 where Kurt Angle broke his undefeated streak. But Joe was far from over in TNA Wrestling as the promotion kept him promoting as a top star.

At the TNA Lockdown pay per view event of 2008, Joe challenged Kurt Angle for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship inside a Steel Cage. Joe went on to win the title and it turned out to be his only world title win in TNA Wrestling. He dropped the title to Sting at Bound for Glory IV never to win it back.

Jeff Jarrett who is also a former four times WCW World Heavyweight champion recently spoke on his My World with Jeff Jarrett Podcast where he looked back at Samoa Joe winning the TNA World Heavyweight Championship and talked about the concerns of making this decision. He said;

“Sure, and when Joe came in — I’m going to get my months messed up, but Kurt hadn’t been there that long and Kurt was, for a lack of a better word, the lead horse. That was the mentality — Joe’s storyline as I recall that we felt was his storyline was the undefeated streak. The undefeated streak in our eyes trumped a world title.

“Why put two storylines into one? You can have a world title storyline and an undefeated storyline and build up different opponents. Joe was just on a steamroll, steamroll and a steamroll. I also from the day Joe came in his personality is a unique skill set. He doesn’t have to say a lot he’s articulate, but I wanted to kind of develop his character along with the undefeated streak.

“Which I know it’s part and parcel it’s one in the same but to me it’s really not. Getting the people to know who Joe is I’ll just say character development. I’m also a big believer that yes you can wait too long, but I also know that once a babyface comes in on the scene and achieves the gold goal they arrive at the mountain top and there’s nowhere to go but down.”
