Professional wrestling legend Jeff Jarrett who is also a WWE Hall of Famer recently said that WCW taping Nitro and Thunder on the same night was another nail in the coffin for the promotion.

WCW Nitro was the prime show of the promotion and it was the biggest Rival of WWE back then as it was aired on the same time and same night as Monday Night RAW. There was a time when WCW became more popular than WWE. Nobody expected the promotion could go extinct so quickly.

Jeff Jarrett Believes WCW Taping Nitro And Thunder On The Same Night Was A Huge Mistake

But a lot of errors let the promotion go extinct by 2001. There were a lot of reasons why the promotion could not stand with WWE. There were booking decisions and backstage decisions that killed the promotion slowly. Former four time WCW world heavyweight champion Jeff Jarrett believes the way the B Show of WCW that was WCW Thunder was booked killed the promotion too.

WWE started their B show SmackDown from 1999 and from the very first day it was a huge hit. From 2002 smack downs begin to be their own standalone show as WWE started to extend the brands. The idea worked really well. But for WCW it was a massive failure.

Professional wrestling Legend Jeff jarrett tried to figure out why WCW Thunder was a huge failure and how it was one of the final nails in the coffin for the promotion. On a recent episode of My World podcast, Jarrett said;

“I heard that Thunder, and that chatter was from some TV folks because I think they were trying to run some numbers, but when I heard that was coming down the pike, I was like, ok, Thunder is not a B show currently.

“It’s like a C or a D show.  Now all of a sudden, it’s a Z show.  It’s like, you gotta be kidding me.  I get the cost cutting deal.  In my eyes, that took another date out of my pocket because I got the downside and I got paid per appearance.

“My contract was affected more than most.  I was not a fan of it at all.  We’re going to do the same amount of work, but in one day with disgruntled fans.  It was a mess.  Another nail.  Didn’t know it at the time, but it was certainly another nail in the coffin.”
