Professional wrestling legend and WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross who is currently working as a color commentator in the AEW recently looked back at the infamous storyline between Torrie Wilson and Dawn Marie from SmackDown in 2003 and explained why it was a bound to fail.

The storyline between Torrie Wilson and Dawn Marie started back in late 2002 and it went on in the early 2003. It all started at the No Mercy pay per view event of 2002 when Torrie’s father Al Wilson appeared on WWE live television and she met Torrie’s fellow WWE star Dawn Marie.

Jim Ross Remembers Torrie Wilson – Dawn Marie Storyline From 2003

Dawn Marie and Al Wilson went on to marry each other, of course on kayfabe and the story line took a really nasty turn when Al Wilson died while having some wild moments with her new bride Dawn Marie. Needless to say, he was not dead in real life and it was just a part of this storyline.

After the kayfabe death of Al Wilson, Torrie and Dawn Marie had a few between each other over this matter and at Royal Rumble pay per view event of 2003, the two went one on one for the first time over this feud. It was only a three and a half minute long match and ultimately it was won by Torrie.

The storyline was terribly received and WWE decided to drop it after Royal Rumble. WWE was producing back to back controversial and bad storylines during the time as it became a direct successor of the infamous Katie Vick storyline which is considered as the worst storyline in professor wrestling history.

Jim Ross who is currently working as a color commentator in the AEW recently spoke on his Grilling JR podcast where he looked back at the infamous storyline between Torrie Wilson and Dawn Marie from SmackDown in 2003 and explained why it was a bound to fail. He said;

“It was the entertainment side of sports entertainment. Sometimes those are dreaded, it wasn’t a great idea. You know everybody in it were good people, they tried hard, they’re just doing their role, playing their role, know your role.

“If you smell what JR is cooking, somebody else did that already. So I don’t know, it didn’t have a great chance of succeeding. So did they get the most out of it? They could, I think they did. But it was just, it was bound to fail, it just was not going to happen.”
