Jim Ross Praises The Performance Of Gunther In Royal Rumble Match
The 35 year old Austrian professional wrestler beat the record set previously set by Rey Mysterio of surviving in the Royal Rumble match for the longest time period. The previous record was set back in 2006 and it took 17 years to break the record which is now held by the Ring General himself.
Gunther has the previous records of delivery really long matches when he was in the NXT UK and he was holding the NXT UK Championship. So surviving in the Royal Rumble match for so long is not something really new to him. It is pretty much clear that the current WWE Intercontinental Champion has an excellent future lying ahead of himself in WWE.

Jim Ross who is currently working as a colour commentator in AEW recently spoke on his Grillin JR podcast where he talked about Gunther’s performance in this year’s men’s Royal Rumble match and praised him. He called him the MVP of the night. He said;
“He’s a freak, and [he] had a hell of a night, no doubt about it. Probably the best night of his career ever. It’s arguable to say that Gunther was the MVP of that show because he went well over an hour. But he’s a lean, mean fighting machine, there’s no doubt about that.

“So hat’s off to him as well. It’s just great to see wrestlers having the opportunity on a major stage to succeed, and their effort dictates their success. If that is true, which I believe it to be, Gunther had a hell of a night. He had a very successful night, even though he didn’t win.
“It’s one of those classic situations where the guy that goes over doesn’t always get over, and in this scenario, I fully believe that Gunther got over, even though he didn’t win the Rumble. So he’s an interesting prospect. I would expect great things for him, especially after Saturday night.”
