The New Day was in full celebratory mood on Smackdown Live after their wins at Extreme Rules. Kofi Kingston retained his belt against Samoa Joe whereas The New Day win their sixth tag team titles from Daniel Bryan and Rowan in a triple threat. The former champions tried to interfere but the audience forced them to go back. Sooner, the trio of Samoa Joe, Elias, and Randy Orton entered the scene to set up a match.

Additionally, Randy Orton came up with the pledge of picking up the WWE Championship from Kofi Kingston. He was successful in earning a shot to the title by the end of the six-man tag team match. Joe neutralized Woods locking him in the Coquina Clutch whereas Elias put down Big E with a big knee. Kofi caught him with a Trouble in Paradise but forgot Randy Orton was waiting in the back. An RKO on Kofi ended the match and thereby put Orton in a contender’s position.

Kofi Kingston has presented himself to be perhaps the strongest champion on the WWE roster ever since Wrestlemania 35 passed by. After the dream win at the biggest event of the year, the high-flying superstar wanted to live his championship reign to the fullest by putting his title on the line on a regular basis. The tradition continued at Extreme Rules where he overcame the odds stacked against him.
