Professional wrestling legend and WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle who is a former time world champion in WWE and also a six times TNA Heavyweight Champion of the World recently talked about one of the best stables of TNA wrestling history, the Main Event Mafia. He said it did not receive the appreciation it deserved.

The Main Event Mafia was a very bold idea that was pitched by TNA Wrestling and it actually came into existence back in 2008. They took their biggest names of the promotion in that time and made a stable which included all of those big names. It remained in existence for exactly one year and it got depended in 2009, exactly one year after it came into existence.

The original members of the Stable were Kurt Angle himself along with Sting, Kevin Nash, Booker T and Scott Steiner. Later more members joined the stable, Christian Cage became a member of the stable soon after it came into life. Later, Samoa Joe and Tracy Brooks also joined it. Angle was the original leader of this stable. It looked really good on paper but it actually failed.

There are a number of reasons that are given by the critics behind the failure of this stable. The first and the most important reason was, most of the big names of TNA Wrestling had been included in this stable. There was not enough competition for this stable.

A wrestler or a stable never becomes famous if it does not have enough competition. This was one of the major reasons why this stable failed. But the idea was quite good and it will always remain one of the most star studded stables in the history of professional wrestling.

Kurt Angle who is a former time world champion in WWE and also a six times TNA Heavyweight Champion of the World recently spoke on his Kurt Angle Show Podcast talked about one of the best stables of TNA wrestling history, the Main Event Mafia. He said it did not receive the appreciation it deserved. He said;

“We had a great program with the Front Line, Samoa Joe & AJ (Styles). That was a lot of fun to do. The cool thing about The Main Event Mafia was we had five guys that were really special. Bringing them all together, making this clan, this new faction, was one of the best things I ever did.

“I didn’t ask to be the Godfather of the group. They actually decided for me to do that. The guys voted and said let’s make Kurt the Godfather because he’s the workhorse of the company. They knew I had most of the matches.

“I was the top guy in the company that was carrying the company. It was really cool that they did that. These guys were so good and so experienced. I loved being with them. They were entertaining. They were funny. We would get really serious at times.

“We were having a blast doing this. This is one of the best factions in the history of professional wrestling. Of course, it’s not going to get the notoriety that other ones have done like The Shield or DX because it wasn’t in WWE. It was in TNA. Unfortunately, we’ll never get that credit, but we deserve it.”
