Lacey Evans was supposed to be a top female superstar after her WWE TV return, earlier this year. Vince McMahon was always heavy on the former Mariner but circumstances didn’t allow her to get the relevant push. She was away from the scene for a very long time due to a pregnancy hiatus. She came back leaving her Sassy Southern Bell gimmick and rather portraying the real-life marine character in the process.
In early 2021, Lacey Evans was starting to create buzz as a heel especially due to her romantic angle with legendary Ric Flair. She was also supposed to be promoted to the title picture at WrestleMania 37. But then plans were scrapped as she got pregnant and had to take some time off from television. After a long hiatus, she finally made her return following WrestleMania 38 with a brand new character.

WWE capitalized on the hiatus and tried to present Lacey Evans in a repackaged way. She eventually earned respect as a babyface only to become a heel who demands respect. She was a regular feature on SmackDown before getting pulled from television on the July 29th episode of the show. Commentator Michael Cole stated that she wasn’t medically cleared to compete but nothing confirmed was given in the situation.

Lacey Evans should have been booked properly according to Jim Cornette
While speaking on the Jim Cornette Experience, veteran Jim Cornette noted with all the potential within her, Lacey Evans was poised to become a good heel, but it’s WWE’s fault that they failed to completely utilize her return. He obviously was frustrated about WWE failing to realize the real value of the SmackDown Superstar and churn out top performance from her.
“She was a good heel, she had personality,” Cornette said about Lacey Evans. “She had a good heel demeanor. Haven’t seen much of her wrestling but it didn’t look like it was rotten as I recall. But how she got there to being a heel was the most ignorant way to build a heel I’ve ever seen.”
Lacey Evans was feuding with Aliyah before she was suddenly pulled out of WWE television. This was during just the beginning of her heel phase when she stopped making appearances on WWE television. After weeks of confusion between face and heel turn, she was finally given a direction but all of those got canceled. Evans had the upper hand in the feud against Aliyah but then she forfeited her match and the program. Only time will tell whether she can gain back momentums upon return.
