In early June, WWE held yet another round of cuts from the company, and some of the big names such as Braun Strowman and Lana were released from their contracts. They were potentially let go due to the lucrative contract with WWE, which they both have signed back in 2019. The exclusion of the no-clause contract helped WWE to trim them down without hesitation.
For the past few months, WWE has been releasing several employees from the headquarters alongside WWE Superstars, beginning with the release of names such as Chelsea Green and Mickie James or The IIconics – Peyton Royce and Billie Kay. But Lana’s release was more than shocking as she was a regular name on Monday Night Raw.
Ex WWE Star Lana Says “Not A Vince McMahon” Can Stop Her
Even the week she was released from WWE, she participated in a tag team match with former tag partner Naomi. Going by Lana’s claims on Talk Is Jericho podcast, she was about to move into a championship feud against the Women’s Tag Team Champions Natalya and Tamina Snuka. Probably, she was also becoming a champion, per the future plans those were scrapped.
Lana wanted to become tag champs in WWE
“I had just made gear, beautiful, neon glow in the dark gear, over $4,000 it cost by the people that sew for all the top singers, and we had all these new outfits. We had bought outfits that I wouldn’t even probably wear in real life, but we have glow in the dark.
Of course, I’m devastated. We were promised to go into a program with Nattie and Tamina. Me and Naomi were to go into a program with them, go after the Titles, and we were supposed to be, possibly, champions, which all that stuff I take with a grain of salt. I was very lucky that I was booked till the day I got fired,” Lana sounded thankful as she was booked on TV till getting fired by the company.

Back in late 2020, Lana received a major push due to her feud with Nia Jax where she would have been put through announce tables, each week. Eventually, she went on to become the sole survivor of Team Raw at Survivor Series. This was done as WWE wanted to build her as a future champion. Teaming with Asuka, she was supposed to win tag titles at TLC 2020.
But then Charlotte Flair returned on that night as WWE would have scrapped that win for her. Lana thus had to finish her WWE career without winning gold in the company. But she can certainly hope to do so in another promotion, down the road. Miro is currently the TNT Champion in AEW who is pulling the strings to drag his wife into the roster. Only time will tell whether that’ll happen or not.
