WWE brought Shane McMahon back on their programming to work for the 30-Man Royal Rumble Match, this past Saturday. His return was supposed to produce an angle that would lead up to a Wrestlemania match. His road to Wrestlemania was also supposed to have an involvement at the Elimination Chamber premium live event. But all of those plans have been scrapped.

Reports from Ringside News already confirmed that Shane McMahon’s WWE return has already come to an end on a quiet note. Further details around the let-go which is also being considered as a release of talent are given below (courtesy of PWInsider):

– Shane McMahon was pushing to work an angle with 24-year-old Austin Theory at WrestleMania 38. This feud would have stemmed out of the on-screen relationship between Austin and Vince McMahon, as Vince is very high on Theory.

– But other WWE Officials were pushing for a Shane McMahon vs. Seth Rollins match at WrestleMania 38. Rollins was originally planned to enter the Men’s Royal Rumble match after losing the Universal Title match via clean pin-fall (reported by The Observer). Instead, Rollins wasn’t added to the match after receiving a beatdown from Roman Reigns which also caused a DQ to the title match.

Shane McMahon was irate over the change of plans at Rumble

– Due to these conflicts in planning which caused multiple changes, Shane McMahon was frustrated on the day of the Royal Rumble, as Vince McMahon shot his ideas down. He was apparently upset because “he wasn’t being allowed to do what he wanted” and was “greatly preoccupied” by his own role in the 30-man match.

– Shane-O-Mac also got backstage heat after entering the Men’s Royal Rumble, as he was one of the Producers and writers of this match.

– Andrew Zarian added that some part of the heat on Shane McMahon has to do with Bad Bunny’s Royal Rumble creative aspect:

“There were numerous changes to what number Bad Bunny would be. This was a cause for concern and people within WWE were upset. WWE doesn’t want to come off negatively with such a major outside star.”

– Ultimately, WWE writers were told that plans regarding Shane McMahon around Wrestlemania have changed and he won’t be a part of the show. Originally, he was supposed to be a heel on Raw to culminate a ‘Mania match.
