Professional wrestling legend and former 11 times Tag Team champion in WWE Matt Hardy who is also a former WWE United States champion recently named the WWE Undisputed Universal Heavyweight champion Roman Reigns as his WWE wrestler of the Year 2022.
Roman Reigns had not been a regular wrestler in the year 2022 but he made some remarkable history in the mentioned year. The first big achievement he earned was the unifying the WWE Championship and the WWE Universal Championship at WrestleMania 38. He faced Brock Lesnar were both titles were on the line and he won both of them.
Matt Hardy Says Roman Reigns Is His WWE Wrestler Of The Year For 2022
Reigns went on to face other wrestlers throughout the year as well where he managed to keep both championships and he still remained undefeated this year as well. He was involved in an amazing match with Logan Paul at the Crown Jewel pay per view event and this match was critically acclaimed.
However, he faced John Cena and Kevin Owens in a tag team match along with Sami Zayn in a losing effort on the last episode of WWE Smackdown of 2022. He was protected in this match and it was Zayn who faced the pin, still it went into the history books as Roman was involved in the losing side. But he was still unpinned and yet to submit since 2021 which is a huge accomplishment.
In 2023 fans are expecting to see the reign of dominance of Reigns continues. There are rumours that the two titles he is carrying right now will be merged by WrestleMania 39. With Vince McMahon back in charge, there is a fat chance of having another world title in the show so he will keep on being the supreme champion of WWE in 2023 as well.
Matt Hardy who is also a former WWE United States champion recently spoke on his Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast where he named the WWE Undisputed Universal Heavyweight champion Roman Reigns as his WWE wrestler of the Year 2022. He said;
“I know he hasn’t wrestled a lot, but his work has been superior, has been above and beyond, and him heading The Bloodline, turning it into a main event act, they really are the franchise of the WWE. Roman Reigns is the franchise player. He’s just the nucleus of WWE right now and he’s just done a tremendous job.”
“To me, it almost feels reminiscent of back in the day when I was growing up and a big fan when I first got hooked on wrestling, and Hulk Hogan, his wrestling appearances were so limited on TV anyway.”
