Professional wrestling legend and former two times TNA World Heavyweight Champion Matt Hardy who is also a former 11 times Tag Team champion in WWE recently looked back at his Broken gimmick and discussed a possible return of it. He said that he would make it more realistic if it ever returns.
Matt Hardy debuted his Broken gimmick during his later TNA run which started back in 2014. Matt had always been portrait as a mid card in WWE and in other major promotions as well. But after adapting the Broken gimmick, he became a star overnight. He earned a huge fan base and because of this excellent gimmick, TNA became really popular once again.
Matt Hardy Wants To Make His Broken Character More Realistic
Because of this immense popularity, he became a main event star and won two World Heavyweight championships in TNA Wrestling. In 2017 he returned to WWE along with his brother, but he adapted his older gimmick and started doing Tag Team battles.
But with the Rise of the popularity of the Broken gimmick, WWE decided to introduce it to their promotion as well. But they never made him a main event star, since Vince McMahon never entertained anything that is famous outside of WWE. He is working in AEW right now and the Broken gimmick is not in work anymore.
Matt Hardy who is also a former 11 times Tag Team champion in WWE recently spoke on the “Extreme Life of Matt Hardy” podcast where he looked back at his Broken gimmick and discussed a possible return of it. He said that he would make it more reality if it ever returns. He said;
“A few weeks ago on BTE, people saw Broken Matt for a second. The mentality behind that clip was that was in my mind, you see me being buddy, buddy with Ethan Page. I go in the mirror for a second. He had really, like, threatened to fire Isiah. He was really having a terrible attitude towards Isiah and you could tell that it hurt Matt Hardy when he went to the bathroom and he was on his own.
“So it was a little bit of a look into my mind and my soul, kind of where I’m at. You can see that I was very frustrated with having to go along with this, with Ethan Page, that might help you read the story a little bit and where I’m at in actuality. I was almost so frustrated with having to roll with Ethan Page’s punches that you could see Broken Matt was starting to appear.
“Not only am I old and beat up and 31 years deep and broken physically, I was also broken emotionally and mentally. So I think if you see Broken Matt Hardy again, which I think there’s a great opportunity you do, it’s going to be a very different version. It’s going to be much more based in reality and just a guy who’s broken physically, mentally, and emotionally, a lot of it because of Ethan Page.”
