Former WWE star and a former three times WWE Women’s Champion Melina recently spoke on the current state of women’s professional wrestling. Melina has been an active wrestler in WWE for over seven years and she was very popular among the fans.

Women’s wrestling has definitely improved a lot with time. It has started almost along with men’s wrestling. Latest talk about the WWE women’s Championship that is not in existence anymore. The title was even older than the WWE championship itself. It was first won by Fabulous Moolah in 1956, 7 years before Buddy Rogers won the WWE championship.

Melina Speaks On The Current Position Of Women’s Wrestling

But women’s wrestling did not age very well as it was never been taken very seriously by the professional wrestling promotions. Women in professional wrestling have been mostly treated as sex objects throughout the time. WWE was not much different from other promotions either.

But recently WWE doing really well with their women wrestlers and they are being treated equally as men. They have not only main evented weekly shows or normal pay per view events, but women have also main evented the Grandest Stage of them all; Wrestlemania. Right now, women’s professional wrestling status is the best in the history.

Former three times WWE Women’s Champion Melina recently spoke with Metro where she spoke on the current state of women’s professional wrestling. She said;

“What the women now do not realize – as much as they’re gonna bash me for, “Oh you’re too old, you’re this, you’re that”. Some girls are like, “No we praise you” and others are like, “What is she still doing round?”

“I’m like, OK. You remember that what you have today is because of women like me, the women of the best. And you remember that how you’re treating me now is the way you’re gonna be treated in your future. So what I’m fighting for now is because there needs to be someone representing.

“Respect the people who get in the ring with you, regardless of their gender, age, or anything. Have respect because I’m fighting for your future. Because some of us love this business so much that as much as we wanna walk from it, we don’t.

“That doesn’t mean you don’t have a purpose in this business, in this career. You still have a place in it. You will forever have a place in it and I will fight for that until the end of my time.’”
