But after the introduction of the newest professional wrestling promotion AEW, NXT was not been able to compete in rating war with the NXT. So they decided to reboot it and change its structure.
Previously NXT focused more on signing talents from independent circuits and building them for the main roster. But with the new model, WWE does not want to focus on Indie wrestlers anymore.
They are not signing indie talents anymore, and they are mostly getting rid of all the Indie wrestlers they signed previously. In spite, their new focus is building their own talents those who trained on the performance center of WWE.
Johnny Gargano was one of the independent talents that WWE picked during their indie pickups. Gargano was one of the biggest names on the independent circuit. He has been with WWE for over six years and he became one of the most famous NXT stars.

He held the NXT Championship one time and the next North American Championship a total of three times. He also won the NXT Tag Team Championship one time with Tommaso Ciampa. But once again, he became a victim of the recent policy of WWE. He is not signed with WWE anymore.
Mick Foley who is a former three times WWE World champion recently spoke on Wrestling Inc. Daily where he said that he is loving the way NXT 2.0 is going on. You also commented on the free agent status of Johnny Gargano. He said;
“I do like a lot of what I see. WWE, as a company, made a decision that they were going to use NXT as a way to get the talent ready for SmackDown and Raw. A little bit of a different direction, which not everybody is happy with. I like it, my son is one of the writers, he’s enjoying the new direction.

“I don’t know enough about the ratings to tell you whether it’s working or not. Somebody, meaning somebody being Mr. McMahon, reached a conclusion that the NXT that was, was not properly, I shouldn’t say that. He didn’t think it was preparing the wrestlers as well as it could.
“I was kind of vocal in the past few months about the releases that were made and how some talent was being treated. And how, if I was a young talent I’d really have to think twice before trusting the creative team to do the right thing for me.
If you’re Johnny and you see the history of guys his size, there are some exceptions. People have done remarkably well, Daniel Bryan, Bryan Danielson being the best example. But I think they owe it to themselves to see what’s out there. I love WWE, I do, I’m a WWE guy. But if I had to pick, my loyalty would be to the men and women who do the work in the ring.”
