WWE NXT Champion Finn Balor retained over Kyle O’Reilly during the NXT TakeOver 31 main event. By the end of the match, these two might have been hurt, going by the reports. Both the title match competitors seem to have picked up different injuries forcing WWE to appoint doctors for medical evaluation purposes.

Triple H noted during the post-NXT TakeOver 31 media call that Finn Balor was taken into a local hospital to get x-rays of his jaw bone. The Game didn’t elaborate on the extension of the injury or how that happened. But he noted that WWE needed the x-rays to be done to “see what’s going on there” with the NXT Champion. Perhaps, more details on the injury will be out after the x-ray gets done.

His opponent Kyle O’Reilly has also bled from his mouth during the NXT Takeover main event, and even before Balor’s bled was the spot. Triple H noted during the call that O’Reilly was also being checked out by WWE medics. But he didn’t specifically mention whether any particular procedure has been followed to determine more on the injury.

Before the injury, the NXT TakeOver 31 main event witnessed O’Reilly delivering a double foot stomp on Balor before throwing him with a German Suplex. Balor rolled through and nailed a double stomp on his own. He somehow pulled himself up on the top rope and connected with the Coup De Grace to secure the pinfall win and thus retained the NXT Championship.

After the initial celebration, Balor extended his arm to help O’Reilly up. They then did a show of respect as the “NXT” chant filled up the arena. O’Reilly raised Balor’s arm in victory to stand together.

On a related note, the NXT Women’s Title was also successfully defended at NXT TakeOver 31. Io Shirai rocked her opponent Candice LeRae in the jaw with an open palm strike. Shirai then climbed up and hit the super Spanish Fly on LeRae. She then went back to the rope and performed the big moonsault for the pin to retain. After the match, Toni Storm and Ember Moon returned signaling to be her future opponent.
