WWE has been dealing with a difficult situation around their Women’s Tag Team Titles ever since the walk-out by the former champions Sasha Banks and Naomi, happened. They were not only the reigning champions set for future defenses but also they were reportedly set to enter into singles programs over the Smackdown and Raw Women’s Championships, respectively at Hell in a Cell.

But The Boss n Glow Connection wasn’t happy with those plans and they walked out instead, leaving their titles behind. Afterward, WWE announced their suspension and alongside that, a tournament over the vacant WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles was also announced. However, the date and participants of the same are yet to be noted by the company.

But WWE was then challenged by a lack of viable teams for the aforementioned tournament. While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed that the Women’s Tag Team Title tournament was dead in the water,

“That women’s tag team tournament is dead. They had an idea for a four women’s team matchup, it was pitched but it was never signed off on as of like a week ago. Now I have no idea what’s going on, not any word either.”

WWE does have plans for Women’s Tag Team Titles

In an update to the situation, Ringside News has learned from a tenured member of the creative team that the women’s tag team titles tournament is not dead. They were told that “it just hasn’t been discussed with Meltzer by anyone who knows the plans.” WWE obviously has something in-store for the belts but they are taking their time on making it public.

Only time will tell on how long it takes for WWE to get the women’s tag team titles tournament ongoing on television. The fact is that the company has a future plan around it and it may be only a matter of time before things start to materialize.

WWE has previously been blasted for handling the Women’s Tag Team Titles in a bad way. Even Renee Paquette (fka Renee Young) recently stated that the belts were only important for 30 seconds. We will have to wait and see which team ends up becoming the new champions but the crowning moment will take a few weeks, at least.
