Professional wrestling legend and former WWE star Raven who is a former two times ECW World Heavyweight Champion recently looked back at his rivalry with Tommy Dreamer in ECW and the series of hardcore matches they had together.
Raven came to WWE back in 2000 and fans were really excited to see him in WWE. Everyone was expecting to see another main event star added to the roster. He had an amazing record in ECW before coming to WWE. He won the ECW World Heavyweight Championship two times in total during his ECW run.
Raven Remembers His Hardcore Moments With Tommy Dreamer
But surprisingly WWE refused to push him as a main event star. He had a huge fan following that were quite upset with WWE for not pushing him on to the main event. He was mostly treated as a lower mid card whose constant focus remained the WWE Hardcore Championship which he won for a total number of 27 times.
In 2003 he left WWE never to return to the promotion ever again. He joined TNA Wrestling and once again he had been treated as a main event star. He won the NWA World Heavyweight Championship one time in his TNA career. He did not wrestle after 2014. We hope he gets inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame soon.
Raven had been a legend of hardcore wrestling and was one of the biggest names of the Extreme Championship Wrestling ECW. He had been a former two times ECW World Heavyweight Champion and his rivalry with Tommy Dreamer was really loved by the fans.
Raven who is a former two times ECW World Heavyweight Champion recently spoke on the DDP Snakepit podcast where he looked back at his rivalry with Tommy Dreamer in ECW and the series of hardcore matches they had together. He said;
“This is why hardcore gets a bad name because most guys just pick up a chair or a table or a pot and a pan and they just hit each other with it and the other guy hits him back — and back and forth and nobody sells for any length of time. Whereas for me, drop toeholding a guy on a chair is so much more creative than hitting him with a chair.
“Dreamer, he’s more beat up than I am, and he’s laying by the apron and Beulah [McGillicutty] tapes a frying pan to his shin. He throws a kick with the other leg and I catch it, and he enzuigiris me with the frying pan taped to his shin. How clever is that? I love that s***!”
