It was back in the fall of 2020 when rumors started around Melina that she was coming back to WWE in a major role. But she was never seen apart from making appearances in reunion or cameos. Some of the fans must have been disappointed with the fact how she was never brought back to television on a regular basis.

While speaking with Wrestle Talk, Melina opened up on why the working idea in WWE never worked out. She explained that the company asked if she would be open to making a comeback. That spoiler went viral and everyone blew it out of proportion. She was more than willing to be back on TV but then they discovered the ruptured knee of the veteran superstar.

She had a bad knee which couldn’t allow her to wrestle. Thus the returning situation was nixed,

“It was talks of [a return]. Talks of seeing if it was possible and all that stuff. Everyone made such a big deal out of it.”

“I was in talks with [WWE], but I never signed a contract, there was nothing going on. Just ‘hey would you consider, would you be open?’. I’m like ‘hell yeah’. Well it turned out I have like a bad knee, and I can’t wrestle.”

Reports were rife about Melina’s eventual return

Melina was present at the Raw Legends Night which indicated that she is on good terms with the company. So things could work out in the future if the two parties can work something out. She certainly was open to making a return as perhaps this could have been a way for her to get a proper send-off from wrestling. Her knee problem turned out to be fatal as she couldn’t get medically cleared.

Back in mid-September, PWInsider reported that the former WWE Women’s Champion Melina has signed a deal with WWE. Something was going on between them as various sources supported the news, too. It would have been great to have her back on the show considering that the Raw Women’s Champion Asuka didn’t have a proper challenger for a long time. Now you know, why things didn’t work out well for her.

WWE officials were also interested to bring back Melina, earlier in 2020 for an appearance in the Women’s Royal Rumble match. But that didn’t happen, either as she was under a contract with NWA. The 41-year-old superstar left the WWE back in 2011 after enjoying multi Women’s Title reigns and thereby establishing herself as a pioneer.
