Rey Mysterio is having a unique experience on the WWE roster where he and his son Dominik both are active roster members. The performance of the youngster made most of the critics believe that he could do great things in the WWE. There are also some talkings going on about potentially Dominik possessing the legendary mask of his father.
That could happen, down the line which could have happened, earlier. But it should be a rushed decision, according to the veteran. During a recent appearance on the Not About Wrestling podcast, Rey Mysterio spoke about his son’s career. The topic of Dominik Mysterio, going against family tradition by wrestling in WWE without a mask, was also nurtured.
Rey Mysterio admitted that it “might be a little too late” to mask Dominik even though the father-son duo continues to have discussions over the matter.
“Yes, as a matter of fact there was [a conversation about masking him],” revealed Mysterio. “The only issue was that he was getting so much promotion without the mask, prior to him starting to wrestle. When I did my storyline with Samoa Joe with Brock and we just felt maybe it might be a little too late to mask him now.”

Obviously, the former world champion doesn’t rule out the possibility of Dominik wearing a mask while wrestling just like him. Eventually, he could have to pass the mask to his son as his time to retirement approaches closer.
“We’ve talked about it,” he said. “We would love to incorporate the mask somehow someway, so the legacy continues. Even if they know his face already. We can start a trend where Dominick is outside the ring and Dominick Mysterio is inside the ring.” (Quotes courtesy Wrestling Inc)

Rey Mysterio insists on old school training for Dominik
This past week on SmackDown, Rey Mysterio and Dominik teamed up on SmackDown in a tag team match only to come up short. He lost an Elimination Chamber qualifier match to Sami Zayn and King Baron Corbin. It was a dream for Sr. Mysterio to perform with his son in a tag team and that dream has already been fulfilled.
Dominik Mysterio received a lot of attention since his in-ring debut at SummerSlam 2020 against Seth Rollins. He is one of the youngsters who could make a big name for himself, but his father doesn’t want things to happen in a hurry. He wants to make sure that he gets trained properly with old-school encouragement from the pro wrestling business.
“I still tap into the old school mentality roots, where I don’t praise him for doing something good. I always tell him you can do so much better, and I think that is the key to perfecting certain things in life. In this case, in this sport which is eventually in time gonna make him better, but I am pretty rough on Dominick, and I love it too. I can’t be easy on him.”
