Rey Mysterio Remembers His First Major Injury After Rehab

After WCW was purchased by WWE in 2001, he worked on the independent circuit for 1 year before getting signed by WWE in 2002. In that time that first ever WWE brand split just took place, and Mysterio became an official member of WWE SmackDown. The debut entrance was really cool and it remained his entrance style for the next couple of years.

The first opponent he faced in WWE was Chavo Guerrero. They were real life friend and they also had a great chemistry between each other so Chavo was the perfect opponent for him. With time Mysterio became one of the biggest sensations of WWE. Even at the age of 47 he is one of the major stars in WWE today. We are pretty sure that he still has a long way to go in WWE.

Currently, he is involved in a feud with his own son Dominik Mysterio and this is the second ever father vs. son feud in WWE history. At WrestleMania 39, he faced his son in a match and he managed to secure a victory. The feud continued even after the end of WrestleMania 39 and it was going really strong.

Rey Mysterio who is the former three times WWE World Champion recently spoke on Logan Paul’s “IMPAULSIVE” podcast where he looked back at his first major injury after getting released from rehab and talked about it. Here is what he had to say;

“After I went to rehab, probably three years later, I ended up getting another surgery and it was probably the worst one of all,” he recalled. “I remember I was in mad pain. I tore my ACL. I sprained my MCL. They said pretty much my knee was dangling by one thread. So it was pretty bad. I remember I wrestled in San Diego that night and we were the main event.

“I was wrestling Alberto Del Rio. In the first two minutes of the match, I felt that snap. I was like, ‘Ah, shit. I’m fucked up. Like, no, let’s go home. That’s it. I was like, ‘No, no, no, let’s keep going. We kept rolling, but then afterwards, I probably damaged it more in the 10-12 minutes that I stayed in the ring. I had the surgery. I came home and the doctor gave me painkillers.

“I took one, and throughout the night, because they had to drill two holes, my knee, I remember it was the worst pain I’ve ever felt from the surgeries that I’ve had in the past. I would tell my wife, ‘No, I’m not gonna take anything. I’m not gonna take anything.’ and I controlled my pain as much as I could until she said, ‘I can’t stand watching like that.’ So it was pretty bad. I remember I was balling out with this. She actually had them so she controlled everything, but I didn’t want to take them.”
