Ric Flair Released By WWE Upon Request To Vince McMahon

One of the all-time greats, Ric Flair re-signed with WWE last year, but he’s already done with the company. As confirmed by Wrestling Inc. and Fightful, the legendary superstar is no longer with WWE. According to sources close to the situation, he requested the release and it was granted, effective today.

As mentioned above, he renewed his contract with the WWE, last year to go into a romance angle with Lacey Evans which had to stop, all of a sudden after the latter announced her pregnancy.

Ric Flair isn’t the only talent to be released around this week as Bray Wyatt made headlines with his release. According to PWInsider ring announcer, JoJo Offerman was quietly released from WWE 6-8 months ago. JoJo is Bray Wyatt’s girlfriend and they have two kids together. WWE has quietly released Hall of Famer Jeff Jarrett earlier this year as well who was working as a backstage producer.

The report by Fightful Select added that Ric Flair reportedly grew frustrated with the WWE with certain booking decisions on WWE TV. He directly contacted McMahon to voice his issues and also asked Vince for his release. It seemed that the WWE Chairman had no issues whatsoever to grant him a release, thereafter.

Ric Flair was uncomfortable doing Lacey Evans angle

Ric Flair was very much outspoken about his disagreement with the Lacey Evans romantic storyline. He spoke with Ariel Helwani back in May and admitted he was uncomfortable with the storyline. But then ultimately he ended up doing it since Vince convinced him that it would get Evans over in the program with Charlotte Flair.

“In this instance, I didn’t [feel comfortable],” Ric Flair admitted. “The one thing I’ve learned is you’re not going to win a war when someone’s got their mind made up. She most definitely didn’t like it, but the one thing that I can say about me is I always said yes. I didn’t want to be that guy that was always going ‘Oh, that isn’t perfect for me.’”

Despite the efforts by The Nature Boy and the planning of WWE to make her the champion, the storyline didn’t pay off as Lacey Evans found out that she was pregnant in the month of February. Ric Flair stopped making appearances, thereafter as Lacey had to be sidelined from Raw TV.
