WWE SmackDown star and a former WWE United States Champion Ricochet who is also a former WWE Intercontinental Champion recently looked back at the Epic submission match between Stone Cold Steve Austin and “The Hitman” Bret Hart and explained how it affected his career and his life.

It was the time when Steve Austin was still not a big star and WWE was trying to build him as the next big thing of the promotion. Austin was a heel in that time and his feud with Bret Hart was going on for months. It became even more intense at Royal Rumble when Austin eliminated Hurt illegally from this match.

Ricochet Recalls Steve Austin Vs. Bret Hart Match From WrestleMania 13

At WrestleMania 13, WWE booked a submission match between these two big stars of the promotion. It is not only considered as the best match of WrestleMania 13 but one of the best matches in WrestleMania history as well. It was such a dramatic match that during it, Austin turned babyface and nobody understood it. It was not even planned.

Most of the fans and critics believe that it was the actual moment which made Austin the biggest star of the Attitude Era. Austin went on to become the biggest star of WWE in the near future. He was one of the biggest reasons behind the ultimate success of WWE and their triumph over WCW.

Ricochet who is also a former WWE Intercontinental Champion recently spoke to METRO where he looked back at the Epic submission match between Stone Cold Steve Austin and “The Hitman” Bret Hart and explained how it affected his career and his life. He said;

“Honestly, because it was bleeding a lot, obviously the doctors are gonna come out and check on you. I was trying to actually [copy] Stone Cold, WrestleMania 13, [nodding vigorously] put it over my head, you know what I mean?

“They were like, ‘No, we can’t do that.’ Obviously, because they’re the doctors, they’re like, ‘We gotta make sure you’re ok, what are you doing?’ I’m like, ‘Stop wiping the blood,’ and they’re like, ‘No, we can’t, what are you doing?!’

“I’m going on 20 years now, which is pretty crazy. I think after doing it so long, I think you can judge the severity of a situation. Honestly, I think it looked worse than it was because of the blood and everything.

“Literally, it healed up within days, it was so easy! It was just a freak accident, and it didn’t even hurt. I mean, it hurt, but I didn’t get knocked out and I didn’t see stars.”
