Professional wrestling legend and WWE Hall of Famer Road Dogg who is the former six times WWE Tag Team Champion recently talked about the Tag Team of Rusev and Aiden English and discussed Vince McMahon not pushing them in spite of their immense popularity.

Rusev was one of the biggest projects of WWE during the mid 2020s. Vince McMahon tried to push him as an upper mid card throughout his WWE career. In spite of having a repetitive anti American gimmick, the Bulgarian professional wrestler became quite famous among the WWE fans. He managed to win the WWE United States championship for a total number of three times.

Road Dogg Thinks Rusev And Aiden English Should Have Been Pushed As A Tag Team

He earned most of his fame in 2017 after he was drafted to SmackDown. He teamed up with Aiden English and WWE started to push them as a tag team. During this time, the Bulgarian Brute was given a new gimmick called the Rusev Day.

It turned out to be one of the most successful ideas of WWE throughout the years. The former three times WWE United States champion became one of the most famous stars of WWE. Not only he became famous but also one of the top Merchandise seller of WWE during the time.

But WWE completely failed to capitalize this popularrity of the Bulgarian professional wrestler. It is still unknown why WWE dropped the idea of Rusev Day. Some believed that he was becoming more popular than Roman Reigns which Vince McMahon did not like.

Sometimes WWE punished their stars for getting more fame than they were expected to get. The same thing happened with him. He could not even be pushed as a Tag Team wrestler with Aiden English which was also pretty shocking. In April 2020 he was released from WWE.

Road Dogg who is the former six times WWE Tag Team Champion recently spoke on his “Oh…You Didn’t Know,” where he Podcast talked about the Tag Team of Rusev and Aiden English and discussed Vince McMahon not pushing them in spite of their immense popularity. He said;

“So it’s yes, yes, we saw it. Yes, we saw Rusev Day getting over. I honestly don’t know what happened to Rusev Day. One day, we were pushing it and the next day we weren’t. Honestly, when I say we weren’t pushing it, it didn’t go away. It didn’t just disappear, we just weren’t doing anything with it anymore.

“Every time I would pitch something it would get shot down. So I don’t know what happened. I’m not going to say anything, because last time I said something, I got a phone call and I’m not gonna have that happen again.

“But honestly, I don’t know what went down that all of a sudden we stopped running with it because it was going really well.”

“I think it was getting over and I don’t know if Vince was a fan of Aiden English. I feel comfortable saying that. I don’t know if he was a fan of Aiden English. He’s a great singer. He’s a great wrestler.

“He’s, I mean, he’s not a beautiful man, but neither am I. Well, look, he doesn’t, his body looks like everybody else’s, just he’s not tanned and he looks like me or whatever. You know what I mean? Like he just looks different.

“And I don’t mean nothing bad by that. You can’t say nothing nowadays without having to qualify it with everything. God, the dude is not good-looking, what do you want me to say?”
