Professional wrestling legend and WWE Hall of Famer Rob Van Dam who is also a former WWE World champion recently looked back at his WWE World Championship match against John Cena from the ECW One Night Stand pay per view event from 2006 and discussed how impactful it was.
WWE organised the first ECW One Night Stand event back in 2005 and after seeing its immense success they decided to reopen the ECW as a brand. Needless to say, ECW was one of the most famous professional wrestling promotions of the 90s. It was ultimately purchased by WWE after it got bankrupt.

Rob Van Dam Remembers His Match Against John Cena From ECW One Night Stand
Before reopening the ECW, Vince McMahon decided to run another ECW One Night Stand event, and the main event of the show was the WWE Championship match between John Cena and Rob Van Dam. Van Dam won the WWE Money in the Bank ladder match at WrestleMania 22, which he cashed in to challenge John Cena at ECW One Night Stand.
Van Dam got the total fan support from the event and it was the first time when John Cena was completely loathed by the home crowd. Nobody in the arena wanted Cena to win, and Cena did not win. Van Dam received help from Edge and won the WWE Championship. This moment might had been forgotten after nearly 17 years, but it was still one of the most iconic moments in WWE history.

Rob Van Dam who is also a former WWE World champion recently spoke to Chris Van Vliet where he looked back at his WWE World Championship match against John Cena from the ECW One Night Stand pay per view event from 2006 and discussed how impactful it was. He said;
“The one match would probably be when I beat John Cena at ECW One Night Stand and won the championship belts. Which if they asked me, I’d bring it up. If they asked me what my favorite match was, [I’d mention it] because first off, the match itself was in my opinion, great. I loved the match. Obviously Cena is great. He was great with that crowd. The crowd was incredible. One of a kind crowd.

“[It was an] irreplaceable moment, besides all of that, it’s like ‘What was my story, my build up, going into that particular match? Everything since 96.’ Maybe even before that, if you were to add the history. So for those reasons.
“Me and every fan in that building, we were all fighting for what I believed in, in my heart, and what got me all the way up to that point. That’s why they all wanted to see the match go the way it did and see Cena go down, or they would riot.”
