A dream match between Roman Reigns vs. Goldberg is in the pipeline which culminates in at Elimination Chamber 2022. These two are the two masters of the spear maneuver which automatically sets up a ‘passing the torch’ matchup. The current universal champion is the favorite to hand over another loss to the former champion and thereby just take the torch from him.

However, Bill Goldberg says that he will not let WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns steal the torch from him. The WWE Hall of Famer appeared on WWE’s The Bump this week, along with another WWE Hall of Famer with a football background – Ron Simmons.

Goldberg-Roman Reigns has a ton of history

Goldberg mentioned how he played football for Georgia State and Roman Reigns also took the same route but he played for his rival Georgia Tech when they were younger. According to the legendary superstar, he challenged the current top WWE superstar just because they have a similar history. But that doesn’t mean he’s willing to pass the baton,

“But I can do it, I have faith in myself, and truthfully, I’m doing it for guys like Ron [Simmons], I’m doing it for all the guys who stepped before me because I’ve got the torch right now, and one of these days I get to hand it off, but right now Roman actually wants to steal it from me, and I’m not going to let him do it.” (quotes courtesy Wrestling INC)

Roman Reigns: Goldberg Won’t Allow WWE’s Tribal Chief To 'Steal The Torch' 2

Goldberg was originally scheduled to face Roman Reigns two years ago at WrestleMania 36 in 2020, but the match had to be canceled as the latter name took time off due to the COVID-19 pandemic. WWE recently tweeted a clip to promote the bout as a “2 years in the making” due to the earlier nixing while it will also be their first 1-on-1 meeting in a WWE ring.

During the interview, Goldberg was asked about this Roman Reigns being completely different than the Reigns he was going to face in 2020. The Myth mentioned how he’s undefeated against members of Reigns’ family, which appeared to be a reference to his earlier wins over The Rock and Rosey. He also plans to keep that streak ongoing at Elimination Chamber.
