Last night’s WWE Day 1 main event was scheduled to be Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship in a rematch. Fans were more than excited to witness this mega bout but it was canceled at the last minute as the reigning champion was exposed to the coronavirus.
According to reports from Ariel Helwani, Roman Reigns had tested positive for COVID-19 and had then been pulled from the PPV show. It was subsequently confirmed by the WWE in an official statement. Meanwhile, check out the report issued by Helwani,
“Roman Reigns has tested positive for COVID-19, per sources. As a result, he won’t be competing tonight at the WWE PPV, Day 1, in Atlanta. Reigns is the WWE Universal Champion. He is vaccinated, sources say.
Brock Lesnar, his scheduled opponent for tonight’s card, will now compete for the WWE championship in what has turned into a fatal five way with champ Big E, Kevin Owens, Seth Rollins and Bobby Lashley.”
As you can see, Brock Lesnar was added to the WWE Title match at the bygone PPV event who eventually ended up clinching his sixth WWE Championship, as well by the end of the night. With this win, the speculation is that the program with Roman Reigns might have come to an end.
Roman Reigns intends to return in quick time
The Universal Champion is expected to return to action after a short hiatus as he issued the following statement on Twitter,
“I yearn to perform tonight at #WWEDay1 to defend my Universal Championship. However, unfortunately, earlier today I tested positive for COVID-19. Due to the proper protocols I am unable to compete as originally scheduled. I look forward to returning to action as soon as possible.”

As of now, there’s no word available on when the due Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns match will happen, or whether WWE will still be heading in that direction now that Lesnar has won the WWE Title. Originally, Day 1 was scheduled to feature a huge angle with Reigns, Lesnar, and Paul Heyman, to set up yet another Lesnar vs. Reigns match at WrestleMania 38.
This was also supposed to be the main-event match of this year’s ‘Mania which could be off the card, for now. New plans for the headliner match should be let known in due course.
