The main event of WrestleMania 40 Sunday headlined by Roman Reigns was majorly helmed to be one of the best main events in the history of the WWE premium live event. There was a great story-telling in the ring with the Undisputed WWE Championship being defended in The ‘Bloodline Rules’ match with Cody Rhodes being the challenger.

After the dust settled following multiple returns in the match, it was the American Nightmare who got to finish his story by dethroning The Tribal Chief as the champion. After The Bloodline members interfered on several occasions, it was the likes of The Undertaker and John Cena who made the save on behalf of the new champion.

Roman Reigns Already Thinking Of Main-Eventing WWE Wrestlemania 41

The finish of the title match saw Roman Reigns hitting Cody with the Superman Punch in the ring and going for the cover, but Cody kicked out. Cody then blocked another spear and hit him with the Cody Cutter for a near-fall. Cody hit his opponent with a Spear and then delivered three back-to-back Cross Rhodes for the championship win.

Roman Reigns is yet to get over from Shield breakup

As noted in a report from WWFOldSchool, it was noted that Roman Reigns’ past played a big role in his loss in the match. He never got over The Shield’s breakup from almost 10 years ago. He was supposed to use the steel chair on Cody for the win, but due to wanting revenge, he rather attacked Rollins with the chair instead, in the same manner, Seth attacked him with the chair in 2014. This opened the door for Cody to move on toward the final sequence of the match.

Wrestlemania 40: Roman Reigns Slated For New Angle After Loss At WWE PLE

Following the loss, footage surfaced from Wrestlemania 40 showing that Roman Reigns and WWE Hall of Famer Paul Heyman hugged each other on the stage. The former champion walked backstage with Paul Heyman looking into the ring filled with stars to celebrate the beginning of a new era.

For the time being, Roman Reigns is expected to take some time off following WrestleMania 40. Fans shouldn’t expect to see him on WWE programming until the next Saudi Arabia show arrives rumored for May 25th. Or else, he could be going on a hiatus until the SummerSlam event set for August 3rd in Cleveland.
